Open Course Added to 2009 PGA EuroPro Tour Schedule

The PGA EuroPro Tour has announced that Prince’s Golf Club has been added to their 2009 rota. And whilst local golfer Chris Hanson, who has competed on the professional circuit for the past three years, is still not 100% certain about his schedule this term rates the links style venue as 'awesome'.

Located in Sandwich, Kent it hosted the Open Championship in 1932 and continues to be a regular venue for the Open Championship final qualifying, last holding it in 2003 and preparing to host again in 2011 when neighbouring Royal St George holds the Open. As well as putting on other high profile professional, senior and amateur competitions, Prince’s will be welcoming the PGA EuroPro Tour back to the South East after hosting an event in 2002.

Hanson said, "I am not too sure exactly what I am going to play yet this year, I'm hoping to play more Challenge Tour than anything. I have not played Prince's but know the course is awesome!"

“Prince’s Golf Club is pleased to welcome back the PGA EuroPro Tour, where the players can be assured of a warm welcome on a tough golf course,” said Bill Howie, Director of the Prince’s Leisure Group.

The PGA EuroPro Tour event will take place over the Shore and Dunes courses beginning on Tuesday June 9th and finishing on Thursday June 11th. The course will be open for practice rounds on Sunday with the Pro-Am the following day.

“Prince’s Golf Club is one of the most challenging venues in British golf and we’re delighted that we are back there this summer,” said Danny Nickless, operations manager of the PGA EuroPro Tour. “The standard of play is going from strength to strength and the players will be tested to their fullest potential when they tackle Prince’s in June.”

Another new venue, Burhill Golf Club, also welcomes the PGA EuroPro Tour from Thursday July 30th to Saturday August 1st when the players will tackle the spectacular New Course which opened in May 2001. The club celebrated its centenary year in 2007 and the PGA EuroPro Tour will be its first exposure on television.

Burhill is a fantastic addition to the 2009 schedule,” said Nickless. “Colin Mayes and his team have a venue to be proud of and I’m sure that they will pull out all the stops for what promises to be a great event on a very challenging golf course.”

Mayes, Chief Executive of Burhill Golf & Leisure Ltd, said: “We look forward to welcoming the PGA EuroPro Tour to Burhill Golf Club’s New Course, which will present an excellent challenge to the young professionals and an enjoyable experience for sponsors, corporate teams and their guests playing in the Pro-Am.
