The day started as slightly overcast, but mild, and progressed to a bright sunny afternoon with a field of 96 Ladies from 15 different clubs enjoying the Foursomes Stableford competition. The alternate-shot format helped keep the competitors moving well around the course and produced some excellent scores.
As is nearly always the case in these competitions, an early starter sets a good score and it remains there nearly all day until some late players come in and squeeze it out with a countback on the back nine. The script was seemingly written likewise again as a host club pairing of Lady President, Mrs C White and fellow member Mrs J Harpin were overtaken late on, by the eventual winners Mrs Ann Day and Mrs Barbara Daniel (pictured) with a very creditable 41pts.
That represents very good playing and scoring from this testing format where friendships are often tested to the limits out on the course! Trusting your partners is an essential element in foursomes and from the feedback on the day, it was very much enjoyed.
The prizes were well shared out around the different clubs that entered and it was overheard from some visitor’s that the testing terrain around the Dewsbury course was not at all as bad as they had been told and they had enjoyed the test it provided.
General Manager at The Pinnacle club told the Huddersfield Blog, "The Ladies commented on the good condition of the course, especially after the extreme weather conditions we have experienced recently. Dewsbury District always provides a good test and today was no exception."
