Jason Jones Outclasses the Field at Strensall!
The 30th staging of the York Rose Bowl took place yesterday at York Golf Club and a strong field of 66 players played. Despite the poor weather conditions that have existed this year, the Greens Staff at the Club had prepared the course to the best standard it might be in under those circumstances and generally players were impressed with the quality of the course.
The morning round was lead by Tony Cole of Scarcroft as the only player to shoot below par with a 69 to lead by 1 shot but with 16 players within 3 shots of him.
The afternoon round saw, as expected, improved scores as players were more accustomed to the greens and pin placements. Six sub par rounds were achieved in the afternoon lead by Jason Jones (Saltburn) and Justin Sloan (Brough) who both shot 67’s. The 67 of Jason Jones was enough to secure him his first win at the Rose Bowl with a 36 hole score of 138 – 3 clear of Nigel Sweet (Moortown) and Steve Brennan (Wheatley)
Jones is pictured below receiving the trophy from Captain Keith Griffiths. CSS was 71 for the first round and 70 in the afternoon.
