The Darnton Cup, a gents betterball competition at Bradley Hall, attracted a field of 160 members yesterday. Remaining relatively dry for most of the day and with only light winds, which for a change were of the prevailing kind, good scores were inevitable.The winners decided on a back nine countback were current Mexborough Cup holder, Mark Bailey, and his playing partner Andrew Nicholson who returned a nett 63. In second place with the same nett score were scratch team members, Martin Cockcroft (pictured) and David Whitaker, also the current vice captain of the Club.
Only one shot further adrift were Gary Parker and Andrew Garnett with a nett 64.
In 12th place were Mike Fisher and Brian Hadcroft whose nett 67 was helped in no small way by a 'hole in one' at the last hole by Brian - with such a large field, the whisky soon disappeared!
