East Riding Union are the early leaders in the Yorkshire Inter-District Union League. The 2008 runners-up scored a hefty victory (27-9) over Teesside in their opening fixture at Scarborough South Cliff and therefore lead the other three victorious teams on the opening day - Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield - on points difference. Meanwhile Dewsbury's Ben Crowther heads the order of merit after a foursomes victory and a halved singles game in the encounter against Leeds. Crowther, who has an impressive record in the order of merit after finishing as runner-up in 2006, first in 2007 and third last year, leads by a point from Iain Powell, Steve Martin and Sam Bridges.
