Josh Leads the Way

On Saturday The Woodruff Cup was played at a very windy and certainly in the morning, cold Bradley Hall Golf Club. However, conditions improved slightly in the afternoon and this was to be reflected in the scoring. The handicap limit for the competition was 15, meaning that those with a lower handicap had a distinct advantage.

Playing together in a field of 150 golfers, were two members of the Junior Team, Junior Captain Andy Hare (6 hcp) and Josh Bailes (15 hcp) and they obviously sparked each other with some almost unbelievable scoring. Josh recorded a 79 gross to give him a nett score of 64 and Andy shot the joint lowest gross score of the day with a 72 for a 66 nett.

Also matching that 72 gross was the Vice Captain, David Whitaker (4 hcp) giving him a nett 68. A shot further back were Chris Mather (6 hcp) and Ian Roebuck (15 hcp).

Such was the difficulty experienced by most of the field that the Competition Standard Scratch closed at 72.

Leading Scores:
J.Bailes 72 - 15 = 64
A.P.C.Hare 72 - 6 = 66
D.Whitaker 72- 4 = 68
C.Mather 75 - 6 = 69
I.Roebuck 84 - 15 = 69
S.J.Wilkinson 80 - 10 = 70
C.Walker 82 - 12 = 70
G.Dutton 85 - 15 = 70
