A late rally in the morning foursomes, where the HHDUGC won the last two matches, gave the home side hope of a comeback in the afternoon singles as they trailed just 7-5 at lunch. However, when the top three singles matches went the way of the North Yorkshire team victory looked unlikely.
A middle order rally with wins for Bradley Park's Joe Hill and Crow Nest Park pair Ben Adamson and Nathan Scott brought the scores closer together but when the following three matches resulted in defeats the contest was over.
Despite the opening loss and a poor return from the teams top order team selector, Frank Greaves, will be able to take some positives from the defeat. Willow Valley's Lewis Howell was one of those to impress and the only player to take maximum points from his games whilst Scott was also impressive with a comprehensive 5&4 victory in his tie following a halved game in his foursomes. Two star performers from last year, Saddleworth's Ben Simpson and Stephen Pullen (pictured), continued their fine form after securing a win in their doubles match and then both halving their individual games
The side have a good opportunity to bounce straight back when East Riding Union visit Bradley Park this coming Sunday.
