Both Jamie Bower and Ben Johnson suffered first round defeats in the Yorkshire Amateur Championship at Pannal on Thursday.
Bower (Meltham) and Johnson (Huddersfield) were the only two players to make the top 32 during the 36-hole strokeplay qualifier and therefore progressed to the matchplay stage.
Bower lost to Yorkshire Boys stablemate, Gareth Johnson representing Howley Hall, by a margin of 4&2 whilst Johnson went down 4&3 to James Maw from Hallowes.
Moortown's Nigel Sweet, who was last years beaten finalist, and former winner, Dave Appleyard from South Leeds, contest the 36-hole final today (Saturday).
