Mansell Drives To Dewsbury Pro-Am Victory

Dewsbury District Golf Club hosted their annual Pro–Am competition on Wednesday 10th June. This was the 29th year of the competition, the longest running Pro-Am event on the Yorkshire Professional Golfers Association's calendar.

A total of 41 teams, each with a Y.P.G.A professional, competed for prizes for the first seven places whilst the Pro’s also played individually for a purse of £3,500.

The morning players got the best of the weather but it was still overcast and the blustery wind made it even more difficult. As the day progressed some heavy showers made the par of 71 an even tougher test. The course was presented in excellent condition, many complimenting the true and fast greens, and everyone enjoyed good old Yorkshire hospitality as well as good food in the bar and clubhouse afterwards. There was also the presentation to prize winners followed by impersonator and comedian, Steve Tandy, who helped finish the day in a humorous and enjoyable manner.

The Professionals prize was won by ex EuroPro Tour Player, Dave Mansell, from Wakefield Golf Club with a 5-under total of 66. His card included seven birdies and two bogeys.

The leading amateur team finished on 17-under par and consisted of home members; Gary Dunkley (7 hcp), Peter Crowther (9 hcp), Andy Consterdine (6 hcp) plus the Pro, Lee Shepherd, from Willow Valley, who were first out at 8.40am.
