Peter Beats Martin to Lilley Cup on Countback

Following a blank Saturday the previous week, when the scheduled competition had to be postponed due to heavy rain flooding several greens, it was a pleasure for the Bradley Hall members to once again be playing under a clear blue sky with just a mild breeze.

Due to 'Open' events at neighbours Halifax and West End, the 'Lilley Cup' was competed by a reduced field of only 143 competitors but the stableford format produced a host of good scores with 17 players beating par.

The ultimate winner was 16 handicapper, Peter Broadley, who beat Martin Forster after a back nine count-back, both having scored 41 points.

In third place with one point less was a new member, Simon Rome (6 hcp) who was competing in his first major competition, having only become a member at the beginning of the month. No doubt he will soon be challenging for a place in the Scratch Team.

Other noteable scores came again from Richard Spencer and Junior Captain Andy Hare both scoring 39 points along with Paul Stott.

There is no doubt that losing three members of the Scratch Team to neighbours Huddersfield at the beginning of the season was a blow to the Club but there is now a 'buzz' around the place and several players desperately trying to take their places which can only be good for the future.

Leading Scores:
P.Broadley (16) 41 (Count Back)
M.Forster (15) 41
S.Rome (6) 40
R.M.Spencer (14) 39
P.Stott (12) 39
A.Hare (5) 39
