Local golfers dreams of playing in the The Open Championship at Turnberry were dashed today when regional qualifying turned sour for a number of the areas finest.
With only the top dozen or so players qualifying at each of the 16 venues across the UK it is always a big ask to progress to the final qualifying stages. Darren Rands from Willow Valley was one of the closest to making it but his 73 at Alwoodley fell two short of the mark for guaranteed qualification and just a shot shy of making the reserve list.
Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath) fired a 75 at the same venue whilst Queensbury's Gareth Murray hit the same score.
