Bob Wallace produced a vintage performance to land the prestigious Yorkshire Seniors Amateur Championship at Harrogate Golf Club yesterday. The Crosland Heath stalwart fired a one-over par round of 70 to fend off strong challenges from a number of players including Fixby's John Oxley and defending champion Mike Kelly from Ganton - a multiple time winner of the event.
Oxley, second last year at Hull, again finished as outright runner-up resulting in a splendid one-two finish for the Huddersfield area.
Wallace has performed well in the past at this tournament most notably firing rounds of 67 and 73 back in 2006 to finish second behind Kelly, who carded a 75 this year.
Following heavy rain on Monday, when play had to be suspended late in the afternoon, the first round was cancelled and the event was reduced to 18 holes.
We hope to bring you a more detailed report shortly.
