All Rhodes Lead to Victory

Following a day of almost continual rain, which flooded greens and bunkers, and closed the course for the day, it was a shock to members that the scheduled Saturday competition, the 'Worsman Trophy' was able to be played at Bradley Hall Golf Club.

This was due entirely to the efforts of head green-keeper, Alan Court and his staff who were on duty from 5.30am and enabled a prompt start to be made at 7am when only two bunkers were still out of play and a small part of the 9th green was still under 6six inches of water.

Court (10 handicap) was then enable to begin his round at 1030 and his resulting score of 75 was, under the circumstances, remarkable.

The competitors found that there was little run of the ball on the fairways due to the rain but were confused when reaching the greens which were remarkably quick in comparison and resulted in a CSS of 71 with only three members beating the course par of 70.

Most of the leading scores came from the early starters with John Rhodes posting a nett score of 68 which proved to be unbeatable but he was closely followed by Glen Dutton and Seniors Captain, Edward Walker, both returning 69's. Ian Hallett (5 hcp), shot the lowest gross of 75.

Leading scores:-
J.Rhodes 86 - 18 = 68
G.Dutton 84 - 15 = 69
E.Walker 82 - 13 = 69
D.Ellis 79 - 9 = 70
P.Toon 85 - 15 = 70
A.Whitfield 79 - 9 = 70
M.Murphy 82 - 12 = 70
R.Leeming 76 - 6 = 70
I.Hallett 75 - 5 = 70
