Bennison Lands Acorn at Oakdale

17-year-old Mark Bennison (2 hcp), a Knaresborough and Harrogate Union Junior, won a rain affected Oakdale Acorn yesterday.

Late second round starters suffered a 20 minute stoppage in the late afternoon, when a heavy rain shower flooded some of the greens at the Harrogate course.

Adam Shenton (Barnsley) led the first round with a 71 but crashed to an 80 in the final round. Bennison added a 73 to his opening 72 for 145 total to finish one shot ahead of host club member Curtis Wilding. Wilding will rue a missed tap-in at hole 17 which spoilt his playoff chances.

Third was Joe Buckley (Harrogate) on a countback with 147 (76 +7 1) beating last year's runner-up Tom Hesketh (73 + 74) on the last 18. Tom's chances went when he hit his second shot into the beck at the final hole in both rounds for bogey fives.

Fifth on a back six countback was last year's winner, Steve Brennan, also (73+74).
