Tomlinson & Green Secure Buckley Trophy

The Open Week at Halifax Bradley Hall began on Saturday with the staging of the 'Buckley Trophy' a men's better ball competition.

A full field of golfers from various clubs in all parts of England and including one from Spain, competed for the trophy in excellent weather and on a course in excellent condition.

The early pace was set by home club representatives, Andy Whitworth and Paul Taylor alongside Bob Airey and Tony Wormald with their nett scores of 66. However they were soon overtaken by the Seniors Team pairing of John Taylor and Tony Hirst whose nett score of 64 held until the afternoon when David Tomlinson and his partner Bernard Green returned a magnificent nett score of 61 which not surprisingly, proved to be unbeatable.

However, some of the late starters put in a good effort with Ernie Howker and his partner, John Dolan, with a combined age approaching 140 returning the best of the 64's, to finish in second place, just edging out Clive McFadzean and his partner Quentin Campbell, the Spanish representative on a back 9 count back.

Leading scores:
D.Tomlinson & B.Green 61
E.Howker & J.Dolan 64 (back 9)
C.McFadzean & Q.Campbell 64 (back 6)
