Wallace at the Double

Bob Wallace made it a fortnight to remember yesterday when he added the HHDUGC Seniors Individual Strokeplay Championship to the Yorkshire Seniors title he landed at Harrogate Golf Club last month.

The Crosland Heath player (pictured with Union President Philip Walton) repeated his gross score of 71 around a tight West End course to win by two strokes from Union Team Manager, Chris Mear (Meltham), with John Oxley, runner-up in the county event at Starbeck, a further shot back. Wallace had previously won the title back in 2003 at Marsden whilst Oxley was victorious in 2006.

There was some consolation for Oxley as he was part of the winning side that captured the Geoff Horrocks-Taylor Trophy. His score of 74 joined that of Graham Smith (75) and Doug Gordon (77) as the Fixby trio romped to an eight stroke victory ahead of Bradley Hall with Lightcliffe taking third.

Remarkably it is the fourth time that Huddersfield have won the team event since it's conception in 2006. The winning side are pictured below with the Union President.

Other nett winners on the day included P Bailey (Todmorden) in the 55-59 years bracket, D Pickles (West End) in the 60-64 age group, M Anderton (Lightcliffe) in the 65-69 whilst the over 70's prize went to Mike Shore from Saddleworth.
