Halifax Golf Club cruised to victory over their own Ogden course at the weekend as they lifted the Jack Sykes Trophy whilst winning the HHDUGC Handicap Team Championship.
They powered to a mammoth 19 stroke victory with Outlane coming home a distant second and Saddleworth third, a further six shots back, as most of the teams were blown off course on a windy day at the exposed moorland course.
The four man team of Andy Anderson, Mark Greenway, Simon Willis and Tony Speight produced a consistent gross score of 334, the only to club with all players breaking 90. Anderson's 81 was the best of the although it was matched by Willow Valley's Nick Hartley and Martyn Atkinson from Outlane. Hartley, a 12-handicapper, collected the best nett prize with his 69 on a day when the CSS rose by three to 72 and the event was deemed a reduction-only for handicap purposes.
