Steve Martin from Huddersfield was narrowly beaten in the first ever GolfShake.com Open at De Vere Wychwood Park earlier this month.Martin from the Yorkshire region shot an impressive 33 points but just missed out on a countback to winner Lionel Roberts of Nottinghamshire.
Martin commented: 'The course was a great challenge, and I agree with the club pro wholeheartedly in that both good and bad shots get their just rewards. Thanks for a truly wonderful day, the organisation was superb, I shall definitely be entering next years competition.'
Playing off a 19 handicap and receiving 14 strokes on the day champion Roberts also shot 33 points at the final event. Lionel, said: 'The whole event was fantastic and Wychwood Park was a fitting venue for the final, I'm just pleased I managed to hold it together on such a testing course.'
The inaugural year of the Golfshake.com Open, saw 8 regional events organised by members taking place across 8 courses around the country representing 7 regions with over 300 people it total taking part. The tournaments entrants were split in 2 handicap categories with 30 finalists of the regional events making it through to the final event at Wychwood Park.
