Meltham Foursomes Double Triumph

Meltham Golf Club were celebrating a double success when the club won both the scratch and junior HHDUGC foursomes titles yesterday at a glorious Woodsome Hall.

Union Team Manager Chris Mear joined forces with Jason Moore to lead the scratch side to success over a resilient Ryburn represented by former Meltham man Chris Rudd and Craig Hare.

Leading by four holes at lunch Meltham were able to maintain their advantage and eventually closed the match out 5&4 in the 36-hole final.

In the junior section Jamie Bower and Luke Edmonds also enjoyed a lunchtime lead, they were six up at the halfway stage, and came out 6&4 victors over the West End duo of Nathan Raynor and Brad Hardcastle. For Bower it capped a great weekend after the Yorkshire Boys player had progressed to the final of the Union Matchplay Championship the day before at Fixby.

The Handicap foursomes final saw Castlefields romp to a 9&8 win against Woodsome Hall. Darren Jennings (12 hcp) and Matthew Rioch (10hcp) raced to a four-up lead after 18-holes and never looked back as they finished the contest off with time to spare against Lee Snaith and Phil Sawyer from Woodsome Hall.
