On Saturday 22 May, 160 members competed for the A.G.Beck Trophy at Bradley Hall. The competition is strokeplay for male golfers and the competition handicap limit is 18.
Following the recent spell of warm weather, the course, throughout, was in pristine condition and the greens now showing some growth were running fast and true, all which helped to produce some excellent scores. In total, 18 players bettered the C.S.S. of 70.
Setting an early challenge with a nett 67 was Adam Pearson, who re-joined the club last season after a spell of some 5 years away from golf when football was his main sport and since returning, has steadily reduced his handicap to 9.6.
The score looked sufficient to take the trophy until one of the later starters, Andrew Garnett, returned a magnificent nett 63. During the winter, Andy had a hip replacement and not surprisingly, his early season form had been somewhat patchy, however, on Saturday afternoon, everything went exactly to plan on the day and the title was secured.
Andy Whitworth (+1) shot the lowest gross of 70.
