Outlane Golf Club is saddened to hear about the death of long standing member and ex-Huddersfield Town footballer Brian Gibson.
Gibson joined as a member at the Slack Lane club in 1962 after the temporary block membership with Huddersfield Town players was stopped when the new manager felt that his players should concentrate on one ball game only!
He was known as a doyen at Outlane and with his wife Alice spent numerous hours at the club with their friends. A notable occurrence was when Ray Wilson, his fellow full back at Town, won the Captains prize and then Brian won it the year after to complete a fine double before the former won his Football World Cup Medal.
Brian was a reasonable golfer and was more than a handful for any opposing winger and he will be sorely missed by all who new him. Outlane member Bob Hazelden said, "Brian was unquestionably the most likeable person you could wish to meet on the golf course and the football field."
