May Day Open Mixed Greensome at Elland Golf Club

On May Day Monday the weather was bitterly cold. The first players going out at around 9am had to contend with hail stones! In true Yorkshire style the 112 competitors braved the elements and did not allow the weather to stand in the way of their golf.

A welcome break was the ‘halfway house’ where hot drinks and home-made cakes were being served by Samantha Farren. As players completed their round, Barry Littlewood updated the ‘Leader Board’, which was displayed on a large screen. In the evening the clubhouse was buzzing, as members and visitors enjoyed drinks at the bar and food from the restaurant.

The winners were visitors from Ryburn Golf Club, Phil and Ruth Jackson who came in with 63.4. In second place Eileen and Michael Kenny, from Elland had a score of 64, third place went to Grandfather and Granddaughter team, Peter Gul and Bethany Farren, also from Elland with 64.2.

The event was organised by Peter and Linda Gul. The photo shows winners Phil and Ruth Jackson (Ryburn).
