The 'John Hamer Rosebowl' was contested at Bradley Hall on Saturday 26th June with a field of 150 male golfers.
Despite a strong easterly breeze blowing up the course, many fine scores were achieved. Leading the field was a new member, Matthew Hallett, the son of Ian Hallett, a member of the Scratch Team. Matthew joined the club at the beginning of the season when he was given a handicap of 24 and which he had reduced to 20 prior to teeing off in this latest competition which carried a maximum handicap of 18.
Playing 12 shots under his official handicap gave him the winning nett score of 60 which was 5 strokes clear of the field and a new handicap of 14.
Continuing his recent run of form and taking second place, was Martin Bird (11) with a nett score of 65, together with Terry Jackson (7) in third place. Even though 24 players bettered the C.S.S. score of 70, many struggled when playing into the easterly wind, particularly during the morning.
Andy Whitworth once more recorded the lowest gross of 70 but he was closely followed by Terry Jackson, Richard Leeming and Michael White, all recording 72's
Leading scores:
M.Hallett 78 - 18 = 60
M.Bird 76 - 11 = 65
T.Jackson 72 - 7 = 65
D.W.Kerr 80 - 14 = 66
R.Simpson 83 - 17 = 66
R.Leeming 72 - 6 = 66
A.Pilgrim 78 - 11 = 67
P.Olson 79 - 12 = 67
R.Roebuck 82 - 15 = 67
