Howker is Top Dog in Rabbits Comp

On Saturday, the Rabbit Captain, Tony Beddis held his 'Rabbit Captains Day' at Bradley Hall Golf Club when 185 golfers enjoyed weather more in keeping with southern Spain than West Yorkshire. With rain the previous evening, the course was in first class condition and resulted in many fine scores being returned.

The main emphasis of the day was for the Rabbit golfers who accounted for one third of the field and competed for the Rabbit Captains Cup along with four other prizes and the winner was left-hander, Rob Holroyd (18) with the best of the nett 65's. and beating Brian Dale (22) and Kevin Barker (19). The final prize was picked up by Richard Payne (17) with the best of the 67's.

The remaining 116 'tigers' competed for the minor prizes and the clear winner was Ernie Howker (15) who at the start of the day was within 1 over par score of becoming a 'Rabbit'. However he played one of his best rounds for many years to take the Tigers prize with a nett 63. In second place was the first player to tee off at 7am, Peter Mason (7) with a nett 65, just edging out Clive McFadzean (3) with a gross 69, nett 66.

He also finished in second place for the best gross prize which was won for the 'umpteenth' time by the evergreen Andy Whitworth (+1) who shot 66.

The day was rounded off with a cabaret dinner and prize presentation attended by around 100 members and guests. All in all an excellent day enjoyed by all who participated.

The CSS was 70.
