The President of Bradley Hall Golf Club, Frank Buck (8), hosted his 'Presidents Day' on Saturday 21st August. This was the final event of the weeks competitions and was contested with a field of 167 male golfers.
Blessed with good weather throughout the week, Saturday was no exception with warm weather for most of the day and a course looking at its absolute best.
Setting early targets were Richard Pursell (13) with a nett 68 and Peter Hennessy (11) with 69 and these stood until well into the late afternoon until a clutch of 67's were returned including one from the President himself. These scores could not be bettered and the final placings were decided on score card 'count backs'.
Heading the field but also taking the major prize, the Presidents Salver, presented to the best nett score by a member over the age of 50, was Terry Jackson (7). This left Dean Alexis, also off 7 handicap, in the first place in Division 1 and followed by Mark Calligan (10).
In third place was 'Scratch Team' member, Chris Mather (4) with a gross 71, nett 67 which put him in line for the best gross prize, the 'Presidents Putter' but in that section he was matched by Andy Hare (3) and Andy Whitworth (+1). Again this prize was decided on a card count back and the trophy was won for not the first time by the evergreen Andy Whitworth who incidentally will be reach his half century next season and will no doubt be one of the favourites for the 'Salver'.
In Division 2, (16-28) the prizes went to Mike Bowyer (19), not surprisingly also with nett 67 and George Brown (22) with his 69. All in all it was a day of sixty sevens!
The week was rounded off with a dinner dance and prize presentations.
