Birkett third in Yorkshire grand final

Halifax member Mark Birkett, and his partner Charlie Ansell from Clayton Golf Club, finished 3rd in the grand final of the Yorkshire Matchplay Pairs Golf Championship at Alwoodley Golf Club yesterday.

Pitched against the eventual winners, Ben Ryland & Ashley Ibbotson from Wheatley Golf Club, they went down 4&3 in the morning as their opponents played some splendid golf.

In the afternoon Birkett (pictured) and Ansell played the other semi-final losers, James Knowles & Neil Moseley from Bondhay Golf Club, for third place.

It was a nip and tuck affair all the way and when the match finished all-square after the regulation 18 holes the quartet decided to share the spoils!

Andrew Lee from Northcliffe Golf Club landed the Individual title when he defeated Birley Woods Paul Clarkson 6&5 in the final.

Entries are now open for the 2010/11 Winter Pairs competition but are limited to 128 pairs.
