Bower shines as Union finish respectable fourth

Jamie Bower showed that he has a bright future ahead of him when he fired the lowest 36 hole total at The Doncaster Golf Club, with rounds of 69 and 66, in the Yorkshire Inter-District Union Team Championship yesterday.

The Meltham member helped lift the Halifax-Huddersfield Union team into a respectable fourth place in the six-man team event. They finished 13 strokes behind the winners, Leeds Union, and just four shots off second spot.

The HHDUGC improved by 17 strokes in the afternoon after a mixed morning where only Harrogate and Teesside fared worse. However, impressive rounds by James Skirrow (70), Aarron Schnacke (71) and Iain Powell (72) were the highlights of the afternoon.

Bower is pictured above with the President of the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs. It completes an excellent season for the Yorkshire Boys player. After impressing in the North of England Youths Championship he also notched the Woodsome Hall 36 hole scratch Jubilee Trophy last Sunday, a club where he also plays.

Meanwhile, ex-Fixby man, Peter Fenton, proved that he is back to his best with a five-under par round of 64 in the afternoon at the South Yorkshire course. That was tagged to a morning 74 for the former Brabazon Trophy winner.
