Chris Hanson fired a 1 over par second round of 73 at Stage One of European Tour Qualifying School at Dundonald Links yesterday.
In a wind-interrupted tournament it was good enough to move the Woodsome Hall professional up to 8th position on a score of 151. He is 8 behind leader Damian Mooney of Northern Ireland but lies 3 shots ahead of the 22nd player, who will be the final qualifier after two more rounds.
The European Tour will start players on the 1st and 10th holes today in an effort to regain the play lost to bad weather earlier in the week but with 90 players still involved the reserve day may well be used.
Hanson tweeted earlier today, "Up again at 6, start at 8.10 today for rd3, 36 holes today if the weather holds out!"
Hanson was tied 14th (out of 94) on 6 over par after the delayed first round which left him four behind the leader.
After three rounds only those players within 7 shots of the 22nd player will go forward to contest the final round. 22nd place and ties (after 4 rounds) will go to the next stage in Spain.
There is still a long way to go but Chris made it to Spain in 2008 after qualifying from the Oxfordshire and played all four 4 rounds. In 2007 he missed the third round cut in Stage 1 at St. Annes Old Links.
