Hanson in winter wonderland
Chris Hanson was too hot for the rest of the field as an icy wind swept across the Fairhaven links in the third myProGolfer Winter Series of pro-ams.
The 24-year-old Woodsome Hall assistant, who defends his Spirotech Manchester Open title at Marriott Worsley Park in August, grabbed an eagle at the 15th to add to his four earlier birdies in a four-under-par 68.
He left Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady, the most prolific winner on the PGA North Region circuit, a shot behind in second place.
LEADING SCORES (Par= 72): 68 Chris Hanson (Woodsome Hall); 69 David Shacklady (Mossock Hall); 70 Richard Booth (Hale); 71 Barry Taylor (Houghwood); 72 Gareth Jones (Sandiway); 73 Freddy Valenti (Pryors Hayes), David Brunton (Ringway).

Ian Swaps Outlane for Dubai and Meets Monty
Outlane member Ian Cassidy has just completed a prolonged period at sea carrying out protection duties to the Iraqi Al Basra oil terminal and his golf society (H.M.S. Monmouth) were privileged to be invited to play a round of golf at the luxurious Montgomerie Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates in Dubai.
On arriving for their tee time they were amazed that non other than Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie was waiting for them. Montgomerie was the course designer of the prestigious club.
Ian said the luxury course was a bit different from Outlane and even had a controlled cooling system in the golf buggy to enable them to play in a comfortable temperature. After their round Colin posed for photographs with his invited party - Ian is the second person from the right on the photo.

Winter Alliance at Hanging Heaton Results
Despite many clubs in the area being snow covered last Tuesday morning Hanging Heaton was clear for the 36 pairs competing in the first Alliance event of 2010.
With only three pairs in the Pro-Am the winners were the home pairing of Gareth Moore (scr) and Terry Link (15) with 40 points, winners on a close count back from Woodsome Hall’s Chris Hanson (scr) and Steve Tooby (7). Both pairs had four gross birdies and Chris scored on 17 holes.
The Am-Am winners were the Castlefields pairing of Nick Kelly (6) and Ryan Joyce (3) with 41 points. Runners on count back up were Mark Campbell (6) and Ben Adamson (2) of Crow Nest Park with 40 points from S.Hobson (9) and G.Broadbent (11) of the same club.
The course played it’s full length from the back tees with little run on the fairways and the greens were in excellent condition for mid February. Highlights of the winners round included Joyce driving the green on the 257 yard uphill first hole, spoiled by four putting, and eagling the 523 yard ninth with a driver, 3 iron and a chip-in. He also had a birdie on the 589 yard 18th although the bulk of the pair’s scoring was done by Kelly.
The next meeting is at Crosland Heath on Tuesday 2nd March. You can see all the remaining fixtures and up-to-date order of merit tables in our Alliance section.
