Armitage seals Lilley Cup win

The men's 'Lilley Cup' was held at Bradley Hall on Saturday 18 June with a field of 157 competitiors and despite the forecast, the weather was pleasantly warm even though there was a brisk westerley breeze.

With the recent rains, the course was in pristine condition and the greens were surprisingly quick.

One of the early starters, Peter Skelton (10), set an early target with his 40 points but it was soon bettered by Mark Armitage (14) with what proved to be an unbeatable 42. Mark re-joined the Club in 2010 after a season at Crow Nest and following some indifferent results, he has slowly begun to show signs of improvement and this culminated in his victory.

Playing late in the day, David Stocks (9) set up a challenge for second place but his 40 points was only good enough for third place which left Peter Skelton as the runner up.

Ricrad Dubaj was alone on 39 points and Chris Dyson (19), a new member this season had 38 points, a good effort especially bearing in mind that he had to play off competition limitof 18.

Ex rugby Halifax RLFC player, Carl Gillespie (6) returned the other 38 for 6th place.
