In 1909 the Reverend Jeremiah Taylor and his wife joined Outlane golf Club whilst he was the vicar of Birchencliffe Church and they decided to donate two Trophies which married couples played for in a foursomes competition.
In recent years the foursomes format continued but as entries dwindled the club opened it up to any mixed couples and now the numbers have increased with members taking part with their own choice of partner.
The 2011 Taylor Cups was played in continuous heavy rain and scoring was not easy as the foursome system doesn't give you the choice of drives off the tee. With the first couple out Vice Captain Keith Birchenall and young Charlotte Hirst coming in with a 75.5 score it looked like they were going to have a long wait for the presentation with the scores which came behind them reflecting how hard it was with several couples registering 80 plus and more.
It appeared a strong possibility their score would hold as other couples couldn't get near this total until however the last couple out Jarrad Hazelden and Wendy Stott came in with a magnificent 73.5 score and also their playing partners Nick Sutton and Sarah Hilton took third prize with a 77 total.
Taylor Cups
Jarrad Hazelden / Wendy Stott = 73.5
Keith Birchenall / Charlotte Hirst = 75.5
Nick Sutton / Sarah Hilton = 77
