Outlane weather wins in Lockwood Victory Cups

A back nine hole score of only 32 shots gave Steve McNair and Paul Smallman the Trophies in the fourball betterball competition in weather which saw players having nightmare scores as the conditions got the better of them.

Even their 34 shots on the outward half was exceptional and the formers 4 on the last hole against a strong wind and rain proved to be the score of the day as John Lawton and Simon Wagstaff made a valiant effort to match their score but finished 1 adrift with Paul Walker and Simon McKenzie a further shot back with a 68.

Lockwood Victory Cups:
Steve McNair / Paul Smallman = 66
John Lawton / Simon Wagstaff = 67
Paul Walker / Simon McKenzie = 68

Meanwhile the weather only slightly improved for the Bank Holiday Medal 2 days later with the rain coming down without the strong wind and the winner Andy Mellor was regretting his decision to turn out when he could not register a Stableford score on the opening hole and also a single point on the next hole was not an ideal start for him.

However he went on a scoring spree from this point and to finish with 41 points was a round that didn't look like happening after his opening effort in the rain affected competition. In second place came Jarrad Hazelden who was 1 of only 4 people who could manage a 2 on any of the par 3's and whilst scoring 40 points had chances to improve with putts of reasonable length which he missed.

Third place went to Rabbitts Secretary Keith Skippin who used his handicap sensibly to also score 40 points but lost on the count back.

Bank Holiday Medal:
Andy Mellor = 41 points
Jarrad Hazelden = 40 points
Keith Skippin = 40 points
