Solar Power for Outlane

Outlane Golf Club have become the first club in West Yorkshire to install Solar Photovoltaic Panels (Solar PV).

The system installed in May 2011 will generate around 8,000 KWh/year of electricity, reducing the carbon footprint of the club and under the government’s ‘Feed In Tariff’ (FIT) scheme, produce about £4,000/year of income & savings. This index linked scheme is guaranteed for 25 years, so at current values, the club will benefit to the tune of some £100,000.

Following the club’s strategy of developing its facilities as funds allow, the income has been ‘ring fenced’ for ground improvement work.

The funds for the panels came from anonymous donations, and is another example of the spirit of this friendly, down to earth golf club. In 2009 members funded and built a new clubhouse balcony. During 2008/9 two greens were completely reconstructed to allow all year round play and back in 2003/5 major clubhouse & kitchen refurbishments were undertaken.

The Huddersfield club, conveniently located 5 minutes from the M62 and seen by thousands each day as they head towards Manchester, enjoys panoramic views of the course from its elevated clubhouse.
