Unbelievable, fantastic, tremendous, incredible & extraordinary...

...just a few superlatives that described the achievements of the eight people who played golf around Dewsbury District Golf Club for 24 hours between 4pm Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th June.

The mammoth charity event for Cancer Research took place and went exceptionally well even in the monsoon type downpour of Wednesday evening, just less than an hour into the event!

With only breaks for food and toilet stops the golfers played through the dark using flashing fluorescent golf balls so they could be seen out on the hills. The much appreciated support staff, consisting mainly of Mirfield Scouts, family and friends were also there for all 24 hours.

The golfers consisted of Jason Evans, Mark Colley, Ian Hardy, Brian Johnson, Michael McAlister, Andrew Bland, James Ward and Neil McManus, all members at Dewsbury District Golf Club.

Leeds Rhinos stars Danny Maguire, Lee Smith and Luke Burgess all came to start the event off and spent most of the day with at the club.

What is probably even more amazing is the number of holes and rounds completed by the team.

Ian Hardy, Brian Johnson and Andrew Bland completed 6 rounds (108 holes) and approx 24 miles.

Michael McAlister, James Ward and Neil McManus completed 7 rounds (126 holes) and approx 28miles.

But unbelievably Jason Evans and Mark Colley completed 10 rounds (180 holes) at an average of less than 2.5 hours a round! Often running between shots their mentality was questioned on more than one occasion and covered approx 40 miles in the process.

Totaling 23 rounds of golf by 8 people = 184 rounds, 414 holes x 8 people = 3312 holes completed!

You can still donate at www.justgiving.com/golfathon24 and help them towards the towards something in the region of £10,000 for all their efforts.
