The Captain of Bradley Hall Golf Club, Mr. Roy Lofts, held his 'Captains Day' at Bradley Hall Golf Club on Saturday 2nd July when a field of 183 male members competed.
The Captain was on the first tee at 7am to welcome the first of the competitors and remained there until the last group out at 3.30pm. Complementary bananas were provided on the tee by one of the members, Mick Appleyard and the Captain provided hot and cold food and drinks on the 10th tee.
The weather throughout the day could not have been better with hardly any wind (unusual at Bradley Hall), clear blue skies and warm sunshine and also the course could not have been presented in a better condition with immaculate fairways, fast and true greens and the rough was such that those not holding the fairway were at a distinct disadvantage.
The 'Captains Cup' is presented to the best nett score over 18 holes for players up to 18 handicap and alongside, a supplementary competition for the 19 to 28 handicap. In the main competition, no less than 19 golfers shot scores below the par of 70 and leading the field with nett scores of 62 were Glen Dutton (14) and Mark Wood (16).
The Captains Cup was therefore decided on the better back nine holes and Glen Dutton was easily the winner as he finished one under GROSS on the back nine. Glen joined Bradley Hall from Outlane 3 years ago and this was the first competition he had won although he has been a regular in the Handicap Team for the past couple of years and this season has only dropped half a point in the 5 matches so perhaps the wind was not too unexpected.
Likewise, Mark has been one of the strongest 'rabbits' for several seasons and now easily in the 'tigers' ranks.
In third place was Rick Fairburn (6) with 66, followed by Peter Scott (12) and past Junior Captain, Jonathan Gittins with the same nett scores.
The best gross of 72 was decided on a back nine count back and Scratch Team Captain, Paul Taylor edged out his best friend and playing partner, Andy Whitworth (+1) and Rick Fairburn.
Not to be outdone however, Andy Whitworth managed to claim the putting prize!
In Division 2, Jeff Calaghan (23) collected his first ever prize with his nett score of 64 with a new member this season, Chris Dyson (19) in second place with 67.
Around 100 members and friends concluded an excellent day with a dinner dance.
