The 'Jubilee Trophy' a men's greensome, was held at Bradley Hall on Saturday 9 July. Following the recent heavy rain showers and the forecast of more to come, only a handful of hardy soles were to be seen in shorts and shirt sleeves.
However, hardly a drop of rain fell and in the afternoon although there was a brisk wind, it was clear blue skies and warm sunshine.
Starting first at 7am, John Woodhouse and Paul Toon set a challenging target with a nett 67.2 and this was despite taking 8 strokes on the par 4 13th when their approach to the green was put into the ravine and a similar score of the par 5 16th when their approach was sliced out of bounds.
Some 2 hours later, their lead was lost to father and son pairing, Ian and Damian Roebuck who carded a nett 66.8 but as the afternoon arrived they were to be pushed into third place by the eventual winners, Paul Firth and Peter Spedding with a nett 66 and Paul Wilkes and Martin Reddy with 66.4.
The feature of the winning round was the touch around the greens of Paul Firth who chipped to within a matter of inches of many of the holes, thereby leaving his partner the simple task of tapping in for pars and birdies.
Junior Captain Josh Bailes and the immediate past Junior Captain, Andy Hare came in with a creditable 67.8 to claim the fifth place.
