Outlanes oldest member Les Sykes celebrated his 91st birthday on Sunday at the club with his golfing partners and he also had his photo taken with the clubs youngest member Gregory Hoyes to celebrate the occasion as there is an 80 years age gap between them.
Les played regularly with the clubs old professional Bill Garside after he retired from his Outlane post and he always said that Les had the smoothest swing he had seen and Bill certainly had taught and seen plenty of golfers.
Les was never a prolific winner of events but his left handed style never changed and when Bill passed away in 1994 he had lost one of his greatest admirers but he carried on with his golfing friends although a full round became more difficult as the years passed and he now just plays a few holes with his golfing friends.
