Scratch & Single Figure Golfer at Bradley Hall

The 'Scratch Cup' and the 'Single Figure Golfer' competitions were held at Bradley Hall on Sunday 10 July.

The competitions are played over 36 holes and limited to golfers up to a handicap of nine. All participants are eligible for either trophy but can only win one competition, with the 'Scratch Cup' taking priority.

The leader in the clubhouse after the first round was Martin Cockcroft (3) with the only sub par round of 69 which put him in the lead for both competitions. He was however closely pursued for the 'Scratch Cup' by David Whitaker (4), Andrew Whitworth (+1) who both returned gross scores of 71, Richard Fairburn (5) with 72 and Andrew Appleyard (3) with 73.

In the chase for the 'Single Figure' title, Michael Appleyard (7) matched the nett 66 with Richard Fairburn and David Whitaker, the current holder of the title, only 1 shot back and four players on nett 70 namely Bruce Bain (8), David Cameron (6), Andrew Appleyard and Dean Alexis (7).

In the afternoon round, Scratch Team Captain, Paul Taylor (2) put himself very much into contention for the Scratch Cup with the best gross of the day 66 to give an overall total of 141 which was matched by Andrew Whitworth and a shot further back from Andrew Appleyard. However, with a gross 71 and a total of 140, Martin Cockcroft picked up his first 'Scratch Cup' much to the delight of his many friends and playing partners at the club.

He also finished with a nett score of 134 in the 'Single Figure' competition, but having secured the Scratch Cup, the title went to Andrew Appleyard following a one under gross score of 69 to leave him with a nett score of 136, followed closely by Paul Taylor, Andy Hare (3) and Richard Fairburn, all with overall nett scores of 137.

A total of 31 golfers took part in the event.
