Worsman Trophy Report

The 'Worsman Trophy' was held at Bradley Hall on Saturday 17 July. The forecast of heavy and prolonged rain could not have been more accurate and a course inspection in mid morning deemed the course only just playable with several greens with standing water.

By this time, however, the early starters were approaching the finishing holes and the early leader, Gary Shuttleworth(11), who was in the first group, lead the way with a nett score of 68, having had to endure the absolute worst weather of the day, along with Mark Bailey7) and Tony Morrison (8) who were only a shot back.

As lunchtime approached and with skies clearing, so the scoring improved and Josh Fairburn (6) with his best round ever and the lowest gross of the day 69 to give him an unbeatable nett 63 and the 'Worsman Trohpy'
In second place, Paul Firth (10), continued with another impressive under par score of 67, along with playing partner, David Cameron (6), John Rhodes (9), Mark Dyson (18) and Tony Haigh (11).

Such was the conditions that a total of 50 players failed to complete their rounds. However, one to do so was none other than the instigator of the competition, Brian Worsman, a past Captain and past President of the Club and now in his senior years. What an example to set.
