Halifax Bradley Hall's Robert Booth was the highest placed finisher in the De Vere Leeds Cup, professional golf oldest trophy.
He scored rounds of 70 & 71 for a 141 total to finish nine shots adrift of the winner David Smith of Swinton Park who triumphed in a play-off.
The Swinton Park man overcame local challenger Ben Mason, competing in his first PGA North Region tournament after 11 years on the European Tour, with a birdie at the third extra hole.
Smith, who won the Manchester Open in 2007, looked to have one hand on the huge silver trophy when Mason, who represents Waterford Golf, bunkered his third shot at the second sudden death hole.
The former England international executed his escape shot perfectly as the ball skipped into cup to keep his hopes alive.
But it sands of time literally ran out for him when he beached his drive at the next hole and after Smith had pitched to 18 inches he secured a decisive birdie.
