The Outlane August Medal which incorporates the Chapman Trophy was a double success for Doug Smith because he won the Medal from his Second Division status and then won the Chapman Trophy which is for over 50 years of age members.
This was Doug's first ever Medal win at Outlane and also the first time any one has won two competitions on the same day with his over 50's victory.
The 64 nett score gave him a one shot margin from Keith Stone (65 nett) also from the Second Division category and with another three 65 from the First Division a delighted Mick Hepworth took the prize with a better back nine from Bryn Jenkinson and Tim Brook with the former thinking his 3 over par gross score on the last nine holes could not be beaten.
However Mick matched that with his 2 over gross score but he also finished 1 behind in the Chapman Trophy to the winner.
The competition saw 12 players having their handicap reduced despite the course standard scratch being lowered to 69 from the 71 par.
