Pannal beckons for Goldstein

Crosland Heath's Andrew Goldstein has reached the Yorkshire regional final of the Northern Matchplay Golf Championship at Pannal Golf Club.

Partnering James Skirrow, a member at Scarcroft in Leeds but formerly of the Heath, they booked a place at the Harrogate course by defeating a pair from Howley Hall. The win was more impressive given the fact that it was away from home.

It was their sixth win of the season in the competition and should they win a morning semi-final at Pannal and then an afternoon final they will progress to the grand final at Alwoodley where they will compete for a golfing holiday to Spain, provided by Holmfirth-based company Golf de la Luz.

At Pannal they will take on a pair from Moor Allerton, a pair from Hessle and potentially last years winners from Wheatley Golf Club if they overcome their opponents in the last remaining quarter-final. After their victory in the Brabazon Challenge at The Belfry last year Goldstein & Skirrow may well start as favourites.

Earlier this month we reported that Queensbury's Karl Smith had reached the regional final of the individual section and he could yet be joined by another local competitor, should Fixby's Derek Barnett win his last eight tie at home to Rotherham's Teejay White.
