Last week saw three of Crow Nest Park`s golf teams secure the title as divisional Champions in the Huddersfield, Halifax Union of Golf Clubs 2011 season!
As a result of a fixture mix up, both the clubs Scratch Team and the Handicap Team had to play their last home matches of the season on the same night, Thursday. With both teams needing a positive result, tensions were running high.
As the evening developed both teams proved that they were up for the challenge and further confirmed the long standing view, that Crow Nest Park is something of a "fortress" for the talented golfers who use their substantial course knowledge when playing at home.
Both teams needed to beat their opponents on the night as both visiting teams were sat second in the league going into the matches.
The Scratch team played and beat Crosland Heath Golf Club by 7 points to 3 and now, for the first time in the clubs relatively short history, will play next season in the top division.
The Handicap Team played Marsden Golf Club and they won their match 8 points to nil. This was the second successive home whitewash victory and proved that even after a terrible start to the campaign that success can be achieved. The Handicap team had lost their opening two games of the season. One member of the winning team Martin Henry played in every match and he won all his matches recording a 2011 playing record of Played 6 Won 6. A highly commendable achievement.
If the successes of the previous night had not been enough, then the Junior Team, not wanting to be left out travelled to Elland Golf Club and came away victorious with a great win. That win secured their first league title for a number of years. The Juniors, mentored by Past Rabbit Captain Shaun Higgins, now progress to play in the Union Semi Finals which will be played in August.
All in all, that was some week and to cap it all Scratch Team player Nathan Scott played the round of his young life when he shot a new amateur course record during the Saturday Stableford competition. He recorded a score of 65 completing the record with a birdie on the last hole. Surprisingly, having returned a Stableford score of 44 points (Nathan plays off a Handicap of 3) he didn`t win the competition. Chris Wood playing off a handicap of 13 returned an unbelievable score of 47 points, having scored a gross 72 against the course par of 70.

Club Captain and Scratch Team member Dean Wilson, said - “After the outstanding success of my Captains Day, to then be followed by historic promotions for the Scratch, Handicap & Junior teams as well as Nathan Scott shooting a new course record it really has been an unforgettable week. I feel very fortunate to be Captain this year as the Crow Nest Park Golf Club success story continues to roll on and on”
Well that was quite some week.
