Crosland Heath Golf Club welcomed one of the largest entries for the Alliance in recent times with 70 pairs including 9 professionals.
The weather was variable starting with drizzle and sunshine and moderate wind, the drizzle dying out in the late morning but with strengthening winds, the wind then reducing in the afternoon with increasing cloud cover. The course was in fine condition with the greens unusually soft. The greens had been ironed on Monday and were pretty quick for mid February. Mats were optional on closely mown ground.
The Pro-Am was closely contested with Chris Hanson and partner Gary Shuttleworth (11) coming out on top with 40 points. Tim Pollard and John Jennings (9) were 2nd with 39 points and joint 3rd on 38 points were Rob Stansfield and Luke Pilkington (4) and Jack Pearcey and Dave Micheson (12). Chris had an eagle 3 on the third hole David Astin an Eagle 3 on the 15th.
The Am-Am section was even tighter with three pairs on 41 points. Winning on a back 9 countback were home club pair Graham Procter (11) and Paul Marsland (12) who got off to a quick start with a net eagle 3 on the first hole for Paul and accumulating 13 points on the first four holes. In second place on a back 6 countback were Mick O’Hara (8) and Barry Workman (14), Bradley Park, with Dave Stafford (2) and Alan Dickinson (17), Todmorden, in third. Mick had a net eagle 3 into the wind on the 13th and Dave had a very rare gross eagle 2 on the 11th.
There were 10 eagles in all, three on the 3rd,two on the 1st and 15th, and one on the 10th, 11th and 13th.
The median score was 35 points.
